Step into Character

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Here’s a great way to generate a post: Write from the point of view from another character. Decide that today’s post will be written by an expert in archeology who has just discovered your blog in the future. Or maybe you could relay a conversation that happened to you today from the other person’s point of view, including what they might have been thinking or feeling at the time.

Your imagination is like a muscle, you have to exercise it to keep it healthy and active.

If this topic idea inspired you to write, I’d love for you to share it!

Tips from the Geek - Picking a Registar

Ask A Geek Logo When most of us start blogging we rush into it and learn as we go. Determined to change the world as we go. Which I of course think is a great idea. Unfortunately most of us make a few mistakes when we start. Some mistakes are minor, while others can be devastating. One decision we make early on is who to register our domain name with. There are many companies out there. At first glance they all seem to be about the same. The only noticeable difference in the beginning is the price. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Recent Registerfly the company that registered the Easter Seals, The Government of Thailand lost their accreditation. Leaving potentially 900,000 customers in the dark. link I myself had problems with my register this morning. I have been using GoDaddy for the past 6 or 7 years as my register. This morning on the phone they informed me they were holding one of my domains hostage and I would need to pay $80 to free it. The problem here is they hold all the cards. I have no recourse except to pay the money or loose the domain. In the years Paul and I have been working together he has been with Dotster.com I can say that he has had no problems with them. In fact we have always sent our customers for our web design business there. So I can personally recommend them. Before I typed that last line I did a google search looking for complaints about Dotster. It is only after reading through the results of that I feel confident that I can recommend them.

On the other hand google Godaddy Sucks and compare the difference. While reading the all the posts for godaddy I found several people posting about a great company Moniker. I performed the same search about service. I am glad to say that not one complaint came up about Moniker. So I have decide to perform a little test. While I still would recommend dotster I am going to try Moniker and report back.

Comment Away

A great way to generate topic ideas (not to mention traffic) is by commenting on other people’s blogs. Leverage the topic idea of another writer to generate thoughts from which you can build a post. Don’t forget to generate a back link to the original author’s post to share your comments and elaborations with their audience.

Get Away from Your Computer

Whenever you find yourself with nothing to blog about, a great way to get your creative juices flowing is to shut down your computer and go outside. Go shopping, walk through a book store, take the dogs for a walk. Do anything that gets you away from you computer and interacting with nature or other people.

Unless you have an extremely active imagination, it’s easy to find yourself with nothing to write about if you don’t do anything!

Don’t forget to take your blogging notebook along to make notes in along the way.

Keep a notebook with you all the time that you can quickly note any topic ideas the pop into your head. It’s a great way to record all those “I should blog about this” moments that hit your during the day. (0)

Ask a Question

» by Paul in: Topic Ideas

Inspiration for a post can come from simply asking yourself, or your readers, a question and working your way through the issue “aloud.”

Some sample questions you could ask:

  • “If I could choose three celebrities to interview or have dinner with, who would they be and why?”
  • “Where would I live if money and family were no object?”
  • “Why do I oppose/support stem cell research?”
  • “What albums from my collection could I not live without?”
  • “What book do I wish I had written?”

If you use this idea, why not link to it and share it with everyone else?

Making a controversial statement on your blog can generate lots of traffic and comments. Pick one of those topics that you feel strongly about and make your case. You’ll be surprised at the response! (0)

Photo Stories

» by Paul in: Topic Ideas

Nearly everyone has their own Flickr account or electronic photo album. Digital cameras are more popular now than ever before.

When you’re running low on post ideas, browse through your pictures, pick one, and write about the circumstances surrounding the photo.

Perhaps it was a trip you took, or a person you met. Maybe it’s a family portrait or a funny picture of a beloved pet. Show us the picture and tell us the who, what, where, and why!

Ever wanted to write a novel?

» by Paul in: Tools

Writing The Great American NovelMillions of people dream of writing the Great American Novel. They have dreamed up fantastical plot lines, imagined the perfect hero and many have even sat down and wrote the first page or two.

But then something happens that throws up a roadblock. Usually the derailing can be attributed to a lack of proper planning of an outline and character notes and plot charts.

It’s impossible for an architect to build a new home without a blueprint, likewise, without the proper tools, a novelist can’t get their story off the ground.

There’s a great software program out that enables writers to create all of the planning tools they need to successfully finish their novel. The way that Newnovelist stores information is similar to the way that we think. This means that it provides a greater store for your ideas, and also a different way of thinking about your writing. As writing is such a creative and innovative process, this means that you can develop further as a writer with Newnovelist than if you simply use a word processor or typewriter.

Newnovelist helps you organize your ideas step by step while giving you the freedom to tell your story exactly the way you want.

You don’t need previous writing experience, simply write down your thoughts and move backward or forward through the story with ease.

As a result, you can spend more time on the creative writing and less time working out what to do next.

Visit the Newnovelist website for more information!

Posting your favorite recipe is a great way to attract readers and take advantage of search engine traffic. Encourage your readers to try the recipe out and let you know how they liked the dish. (0)
